The 2025 Fire 7s Final at Halliwell Jones Stadium was packed with action, excitement, and community pride — but one story stood out above the rest: the incredible sibling duo of Oliver and Sophie from St Philip’s Primary, this year’s Fire 7s champions.

A Captain with Big Dreams

Leading the team from the front was Oliver, a natural leader who wears his passion for rugby on his sleeve. As captain, he played a crucial role in guiding his team through a tense and high-energy final against Broomfields Juniors. His calm under pressure, smart decision-making, and relentless work rate made him a standout throughout the tournament.

Outside of school, Oliver plays for Crosfields and has dreams of one day representing Warrington Wolves — and if his Fire 7s performance is anything to go by, he’s well on his way.

A Groundbreaking Debut

By his side, making her debut on the rugby pitch, was his sister Sophie — the only girl to play in this year’s Fire 7s Final. It was Sophie’s very first rugby tournament, but you wouldn’t have known it. She showed incredible confidence, tenacity, and fearlessness in every play. From her first touch of the ball, it was clear she was there to compete, and she held her own brilliantly on a huge stage.

Sophie not only broke barriers — she became an inspiration to other young girls watching from the stands. Her performance proved that rugby is a game for everyone, and that courage and heart matter more than experience.

A Moment to Remember

Together, Oliver and Sophie created something truly special. Playing side-by-side in a championship final, with their school, families, and community cheering them on, they reminded everyone what youth sport is all about — teamwork, bravery, and unforgettable memories.

As the final whistle blew and St Philip’s lifted the trophy, it wasn’t just a win for the team — it was a celebration of passion, progress, and potential.
