Help Out a Mate
We’re proud to be Ahead of the Game – quite literally thanks to an exciting and important project we're delivering in partnership with Movember.
This initiative is all about raising awareness and building confidence among young people when it comes to mental health, especially in recognising the signs of anxiety and depression in themselves and their mates.
Over the past few months, we’ve been working closely with local schools across Warrington, delivering practical workshops to pupils aged 12 to 18. The sessions aim to break down stigma, encourage honest conversations, and equip young people with the tools they need to look out for one another.
Being a Smart ALEC
At the core of our workshops is the Smart ALEC approach – a simple, memorable acronym that gives students a clear way to respond if they’re worried about a friend:
It’s about being a good mate – and making sure no one feels like they have to face tough times alone.
Thank You to Our Partner Schools
We’re incredibly grateful to the schools who have taken part in the program so far. A huge thank you to:
Your commitment to the mental health of your students is making a real difference.
What’s Next?
We’re just getting started. Over the coming months, we’ll be expanding the Ahead of the Game program to reach even more schools, community clubs, parents, and coaches.
We’re kicking things off with a Team Managers' workshop at the stadium this Wednesday evening, where we’ll be sharing the Smart ALEC approach and practical strategies to support young athletes and their mental wellbeing.
By bringing together schools, families, and grassroots sport, we’re building a stronger support network for young people – and making sure they know it’s OK to not be OK.
Want to Get Involved?
If you’re a school, club, or parent who’d like to know more about Ahead of the Game, please get in touch. Let’s keep the conversation going and help more young people feel seen, heard, and supported.
