Live Life the Wolves Way is a lifestyle and exercise initiative designed especially for overweight and obese children aged 7 – 11 years. The community programme is designed to provide children and their families with support and further education around nutrition, healthy eating and physical activity. There is also an emotional element, which helps build confidence, self-discipline, and self-esteem.
The community programme is free to participants and their families and each course consists of an 80-minute session run over six continuous weeks. The programme involves lots of fun and games, discussions and exercise activities to improve health levels, build resilience and increase knowledge of good diet and nutrition. It is compulsory that a parent or carer attends the sessions with their child in order to support development and reinforce a lifestyle change in the home for the whole family.
Children are identified through the National Child Weight Measurement (NCMP) programme and referred by partners including schools, children’s projects, dieticians and school nurses. The objectives of Life the Wolves Way are to;
Contribute to reducing the prevalence of obesity amongst children and young people in the local community.
- Reduce the health risks associated with children and young people being overweight and obese
- Support families to make lifestyle changes to maintain healthier and more active lifestyles
- Signpost children and families to a range of services available
