Westy Boxing Club was initially part of a 12-month pilot programme funded by the Home Office working in partnership with the national sports charity, Street Games, LiveWire Warrington, Cheshire Police and Phoenix Fire Boxing Club.
The club formed part of a national pilot that was designed to better understand and evidence the positive impact sport and physical based interventions can have on youth crime and anti-social behaviour.? Westy Boxing Club has been held up nationally as a model of best practise and won a national award for Outstanding Work in Community Safety.
The weekly session for primary age children (Kid Gloves) and adolescents is led by a qualified experienced boxing coach and has reduced Anti Social Behaviour call outs by 40% and fire related incidents by 65% through the development of positive relationships between young people, local residents and professional agencies in Westy.
