As we move forward into year 2 of delivery; our recent focus has been on engaging young people though the program coupled with the power of Rugby League.
Foundation staff Ryan Cartledge and Paul Leighton have taken the message of being a good team mate and being smart ALEC across to the performance centre at Padgate and delivered sessions to 37 girls in an elite invite session from clubs across the borough and beyond. This is a particular highlight for us- spreading our message to girls across the town and from our wider catchment.
Next up was to deliver a session to the U19’s girls academy, these are a group of girls who are already an incredibly tight bunch and have built up a good level of resilience through their work with the performance staff. Having the workshop and the ALEC training as part of their toolkit can only benefit them to help each other in the future.
Finally, in the first of what is going to be a new and exciting pathway for performance and recognition of young people in Rugby League, Ahead of the Game- Help out a mate was delivered as part of the Schools of Origin program- pitting the East vs West in a thrilling encounter of “mate vs mate” with a keen focus on the development of the whole player- not just the action on the pitch.
All participants are now the proud owners of the Movember Socks which can be worn to spread the awareness of the program- along with memories of the event and always being part of the inaugural competition.
